October 30 to November 3
Research

From October 30 to November 3, a daily experimental, interdisciplinary workshop takes place – another research project of the Hochschulübergreifendes Zentrum Tanz – Pilotprojekt Tanzplan Berlin. Prof. Rhys Martin, responsible for developing the course, invited the choreographer Deborah Hay (USA), the author and performer Margaret Cameron (Australia), and the performance artist Rosa Casado (Spain) to the workshop.
The goal of this one-week workshop is to test and evaluate new teaching formats for the new course: communication channels of interdisciplinary art projects, forms of working, and curriculum structures.
Creative teams, consisting of one of the selected international dancers or choreographers and a student or professional from another artistic discipline, develop projects involving dance, performance art, and choreography. It is planned to offer two-year MA course “Solo Dance Authorship” (working title), beginning in the winter semester 2007/08 at the Hochschulübergreifendes Zentrum Tanz.

Moving 4-ward

Dance theatre by students at Düsseldorf special-needs schools, under the artistic leadership of Royston Maldoom, with four choreographies by Indepen-dance (GB), Orbit Dance (IR), Amici Dance (GB), and Royston Maldoom (D/GB).
At the centre of the work of the pioneers of community dance is the joy of art, of the extraordinary, of playing with sounds, movement, visual worlds, and poetry. Together with children and teenagers from three Düsseldorf special-needs schools, and supervised by three choreographers from North-Rhine Westphalia (Sabine Seume, Misael Lopez und Andreas Simon), they embarked on the adventure of the art of dance and developed a choreography at each school. Committed teachers, enthusiastic kids, a week of dance instead of conventional classes, and many new experiences for everybody! The crowning finale of the project brings all the participating kids together for a Mahler choreography by Royston Maldoom. Participating schools are Rheinische Förderschule Hören und Kommunikation, Rheinische Förderschule Körperliche und Motorische Entwicklung, and Städtische Förderschule Geistige Entwicklung.
