Frank Ottersbach

Frank Ottersbach studied German literature, philosophy and politics at university in Marburg and Berlin before gaining experience in visual art as technical director of the Galerie Monika Sprüth in Cologne. He organised large international tours from 1994 to 1998 as a project director of Tanz Performance Köln and was general manager of the Dance Roads network from 1994 to 1996. In 1998. Ottersbach moved to London where he worked as a freelance manager, producer and consultant for artists and artistic groups with an international reputation such as the Ricochet Dance Company and Phillipp Gehmacher. During this time (from 2000 to 2003) he was also executive director of the Longplayer millennium project and the Longplayer Trust, working closely with Artangel and the musician Jem Finer (formerly of The Pogues). In 2004 he received a producer’s grant from the Arts Council of England.
Ottersbach has been the executive director of Tanzplan Deutschland since 2005 and has ensured the smooth running of a complex system of project funding and Tanzplan’s own initiatives. In addition to the traditional tasks of a managing director, Ottersbach also launched the Tanzplan Deutschland publications programme in 2007, which has since seen more than 20 titles published. He is heavily involved in the conceptual development, organisation and implementation of all Tanzplan Deutschland activities.
