Nele Hertling
Studied Philosophy at Humboldt University in Berlin. Later worked for the Berliner Rundfunk (Berlin radio) and various theatres. From 1963 to 1988, she was employed at the Akademie der Künste, Berlin. In 1988, Hertling was the Artistic Director for Berlin Kulturstadt Europa (Berlin: European cultural capitol). Director of the Hebbel Theater, Berlin, between 1989 and 2003. President of the German-French Cultural Council since 2001. From 2003 to 2006, Hertling was director of the DAAD’s Berlin Artists’ Programme. Since fall 2006, she is Vice-President of the Akademie der Künste, Berlin. She is a consultant for and member of various national and international committees as well as a representative of the board of the Kulturstiftung des Bundes.
