Dr. Johannes Odenthal
Studied art History and Archeology in Cologne, Bonn, and Paris. Finished his PhD in 1985 in Paris. In 1986, Odenthal founded “tanz aktuell” magazine, and in 1993, relaunched it as “ballett international/tanz aktuell”. In the 1990s, he was the artistic director of many festivals, including the “Festspiele der Europäischen Werkstatt für Kunst und Kultur, Hellerau e.V.” in Dresden, and the regional “Tanz 97” project in Stuttgart. From 1997 until 2006 Odenthal was Director of Music, Dance, and Theatre at the Haus der Kulturen der Welt in Berlin. Among other things, he is initiator of the “IN TRANSIT” performing arts festival. He has published many books, including “tanz.de” (Theater der Zeit, 2005). Since 2006, he is Programme Comissioner at the Akademie der Künste, Berlin.
