Programme "Dance in Schools"
Programme for establishing modules to strengthen dance education qualifications for “Dance in Schools”
Project description
To promote the qualification of dance educators in schools and specifically support current developments, Tanzplan Deutschland initiated in autumn 2008 a call for applications for funding to professionalise and strengthen educational qualifications in the area of dance for “Dance in Schools”, as part of its Educational Programme. Funding of €100,000 was allocated to the project.
Colleges, universities and independent organisations were invited to apply together with ‘Dance in Schools’ projects and event organisers. The main criteria required in the applications included an artistic orientation in dance education training, the expansion of cooperative projects, and an independent continuation of projects beyond the end of the Tanzplan Deutschland initiative, at the end of 2010.
From the five projects submitted, the Tanzplan Deutschland board selected two to share the funding, receiving € 50,000 each by the end of 2010.
• University of Hamburg, Faculty of Education, Psychology and Human Movement, Department of Movement Studies (Bewegungswissenschaft): The funding will be used to create a position to develop and set up a ‘Dance in Schools’ curricular concept at the University of Hamburg. The goal is to integrate forms of contemporary choreography into existing areas of teacher training, such as movement research, performing arts, music and art. There will be close cooperation with the “Der choreografische Baukasten” (Choreographic building blocks) (2008-2011) research project, which is funded by the BMBF and investigates contemporary choreography and its potential in education
and
• German Sports University Cologne, Institute for Dance and Movement Culture, and Cologne University of Music: The funding will be used to remunerate a position coordinating partner institutions in the project, whose goal is to develop the profile of ‘Dance in Schools’ for Masters programmes in dance education. The institutions listed above will cooperate with the Remscheid Academy, the nrw landesbuero tanz, Landesarbeitsgemeinschaft Tanz NRW and the tanzhaus nrw on this project.
